Leading Aircraftman Shortt was one of two airmen who lost their lives as the result of the crash of their Yale (#3382) aircraft at Alliston, Ontario, on 23 Feb 1941.
Two days later, the second airman, Sergeant Benjamin ('Bennie') Jay SMITH died, of the injuries he'd sustained in the aircraft accident, in the RCAF Camp Borden Station Hospital.
